September is National Suicide Prevention Month.

As suicide has become a major health concern in the United States, September is recognized as Suicide Prevention Month. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) have each put together a toolkit for Suicide Prevention Month to raise awareness. Resources are provided for multiple online platforms for the public to share which focus on recognizing the warning signs for suicide and how to get people the help they need.

The overall theme for 2025's Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is Together in Strength, Dignity, Hope, and Purpose. SAMHSA has also developed weekly themes to guide your messages to your specific audience throughout the month.

  • Week 1 (September 1 - 5): Understanding Risk; Embracing, Treatment, Hope, and Resilience
  • Week 2 (September 8 - 12): Building Community Partnerships and Supports
  • Week 3 (September 15-19): Improving Care and Outcomes for People at Risk for Suicide
  • Week 4: (September 22-30): Promoting Dignity Through Connection
