Posted 6/18/2025 (updated 8/19/2025)

Description: This webinar provided a brief overview of several models of school-based behavioral health services, in the context of school-community partnerships supporting a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) approach to meeting the needs of all students. A case study was presented, highlighting a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health-funded project. The Health.Opportunity.Passion.Empowerment (HOPE) Project uses a multi-tiered approach toward the implementation of behavioral health services to youth ages 5 to 17 years in a rural county in Alabama.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants were able to describe at least three models of behavioral health services in schools, from mental health and substance use prevention to treatment.
  • Participants were able to define an MTSS and its application in the school setting.
  • Participants gained knowledge of one application of a holistic approach to school-based behavioral health services, as described in the HOPE Project case study.
  • Participants were able to describe the multi-tiered framework components, as applied through the behavioral health prevention, treatment, recovery, and training services offered by the HOPE Project.

Presenters:

  • Deborah M. Casper, PhD, Associate Professor and Principal Investigator and HOPE Project Director, Human Development and Family Studies, The University of Alabama
  • Katy Stinchfield, MS, LPC, Clinical Supervisor and Youth Mental Health Consultant
