Project Summary
Bridges to Recovery is a whole life recovery program that addresses the needs of program participants by coordinating evidence-based treatment for substance use disorder and mental illness, while also integrating person-centered innovative resources like peer support and the “community as a method” approach. We feel that it’s time to introduce recovery as a lifestyle and not a service. Bridges to Recovery is more than a program: it has become a movement in the community since its inception. The target areas of our grant activities are "twin cities" that straddle the states lines of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. With federal funding from HRSA, a system will be created that provides equal access to housing and programming for rural people, from all walks of life, struggling with psychostimulant abuse and substance use disorder. As a non-profit organization, not financially dependent on any one corporate entity, MCGHA is in a unique position to bring multiple prevention, treatment, and recovery service providers together to serve the two counties, break the existing barriers, and fill the identified service gaps. Our experience working with law enforcement, county social services, drug courts, healthcare and treatment providers has prepared us to build and expand relationships with those entities and the public to educate on prevention, treatment, and recovery activities. Engaging the entire community is an important aspect, by building on and complimenting existing programs, and educating members of our community that were formerly unaware of the great need for programs and coordinated care for people struggling with addiction issues.
