Project Summary
United Way of the Wabash Valley, Inc. (UWWV) is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization in west central Indiana engaged in collective impact to address the root causes of key community issues. The organization operates in a 6-county region including portions of HRSA-designated rural counties with a population over 60,000. The Wabash Valley Substance Use Disorders Council Implementation Consortium Project will partner with an Action Consortium to directly address opioid and other substance use disorders by implementing designated core activities in prevention, treatment and recovery services specified in a Work Plan. Major activities will address increased school-based prevention programming, expansion of recovery residences, increased peer support and behavioral health counseling, all coupled with enhancements to allow those in need to find the valuable services developed. All consortium members are committed to the three-year project to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with opioid and other substance use overdoses in this high-risk rural community. The continuing UWWV Substance Use Disorders Impact Council will benefit from the Advisory Consortium guidance, and will develop a sustainable long-term investment model for continuation of the core activities implemented beyond this project period.
