Project Summary
The Helping Impact Women and Youth (HIWAY) grant is overseen by the Coast to the Cascades Community Wellness Network (CCCWN) and was created to support prevention, treatment, and recovery services for substance use disorders (SUD) including opioid use disorder (OUD) in Lincoln County, Oregon. The overall goal of the program is to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with opioid overdoses in high-risk rural communities. Services provided are focused on reaching marginalized communities with SUD/OUD including, but not limited to women, child-bearing age women, parents, pregnant people, communities of color, tribal populations, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and youth. Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital, the lead organization on this grant, provides leadership and support to each member of the CCCWN and the HIWAY project consortium. Members of the HIWAY consortium are responsible for the following activities: Conducting screenings, referrals to treatment services, and medication assisted treatment -Developing a media and awareness campaign surrounding SUD/OUD -Providing peer support services -Providing mentoring, group counseling, and education opportunities -Providing transitional housing, case management, and childcare services -Providing food/basic services, transportation, community resources and services -Providing Narcan/naloxone to community partners, law enforcement, first responders, clients and caregivers -Recruiting and training youth to develop and implement culturally appropriate evidenced-based strategies to reduce SUD/OUD among youth
