Mountain States Health Alliance
Project Summary
The project will strengthen and expand prevention, treatment, and recovery services for rural residents to enhance their ability to access treatment and move toward recovery. Goals of the 2022 RCORP-Implementation (RCORP-I) program are: • Community education via presentations to multi-generational groups and via faith-based efforts to destigmatize OUD/SUD • Expansion of available substance use treatment including support for families/caregivers • Expanding the frequency and number of Peer-Led Recovery Support Groups and meetings (virtual and in-person) in the region • Connecting individuals with OUD/SUD to Peer-Led Recovery Support Groups and meetings (virtual and in-person) and/or treatment programs • Training Certified Peer Recovery Specialists to help serve the region and increase access to OUD/SUD-related prevention, treatment, and recovery services • Creating “second chance” employment opportunities for previously justice-involved individuals or those nearing reentry from incarceration • Screenings using the Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral, and Treatment (SBIRT) tool • Providing harm reduction education, including the distribution of naloxone to program participants and to those newly released from incarceration as their overdose rate is statistically significantly higher • Assisting with Social Determinants of Health by cross training dual state Certified Peer Recovery Specialists as Certified Community Health Workers allowing them to treat the whole person and not just OUD/SUD • Increase Youth/Adolescent Prevention resources by partnering with school systems to utilize the lived experience of Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS) to deliver the OUD/SUD prevention modules of the Botvin Life Skills Training program • Utilize the CPRS on staff under the RCORP-PS grant who is a member of the LGBTQ community to expand access to peer services in this underserved population through stigma reduction and ally services
