WestCare Arizona I, Inc
Project Summary
The RCORP Project is a program to support the planning and development of a comprehensive continuum of care for the prevention and treatment of Substance Use Disorder (SUD), including Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). As it was with the RCORP Planning grant, the target populations for this implementation project will target the high-risk areas in ten small, urban, and rural isolated towns across two states and counties (Mohave County, Arizona and Clark County, Nevada). The rural census tracts for Mohave County, AZ includes 9404, 9405.01, 9504.01, 9504.02, 9505, 9506, 9514.02, and 9548. The Kaibab, Fort Mojave, and Hualapai Indian Reservations also lie within Mohave County. The rural census tracts for Clark County, NV includes 57.03 and 57.05. Each census tract listed are designated “rural” by HRSA. These areas include various geographically isolated, culturally diverse communities that have fragmented resources to address the problems of SUD/OUD. It is also expected that this project will draw in participants from the surrounding city of Needles, California where access to services, especially those relating to treatment and recovery, continue to be extremely limited, if existent. The long-term goal of WC-AZ efforts is to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with substance use and opioid overdoses throughout these high-risk rural communities. To accomplish this goal, WC-AZ now seeks this RCORP Implementation funding to use those lessons learned throughout the RCORP Planning experience, including the identification of significant service gaps within its target area, to strengthen its infrastructure and organizational capacity, and to act as a regional hub in the development to critical collaborative relationships – all with a focus on creating new prevention, treatment, and recovery opportunities at the community, county, and regional levels. As it has done throughout the planning phase, WC-AZ will serve as the convener of the Implementation Grant Consortium (Consortium). Two of the original planning consortium members will continue to be involved in the project: The Mohave County Health Department and Southwest Behavioral Health. As the planning process has moved forward, the Consortium has begun identifying more key stakeholders who will bring value to the Consortium’s efforts as community partners. These key entities include WestCare Nevada, Inc and North Country HealthCare. WC-AZ has been working collaboratively with other organizations and plans to expand and enhance the Mohave Opioid Response Coalition by including the following organizations: The Arizona Youth Partnership, Mohave Area Partnership Promoting Educated Decisions (MAPPED), Terros Crisis Network, A Healthy Mind, Valley View Metabolic and Wellness Center, Arizona @ Work, NAU, Persons in Recovery, and PACT Coalition. WC-AZ has been a long-standing member of the community since the 90’s; therefore, has established strong community relationships. WC-AZ has been guiding and providing clients and their families the resources necessary to meet their needs and it has become a community collaboration effort. Many, if not all of the members of the Consortium and WC-AZ staff sit on a variety of coalitions together. The main coalition in Bullhead City is MAPPED which is focused on SUD/OUD prevention and education as well as the needs of the community. The history between WC-AZ and consortium members are long-standing.
