This study links parental incarceration to adolescent substance use in rural communities. The data is state-specific and pulls from the 2019 Minnesota Student Survey in which adolescents self-reported experiences. Results concluded that parental incarceration was associated with higher substance use and expanded prevention and intervention strategies for adolescents could help reduce the rates.

The first phase of the campaign created by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and Ad Council was launched to education young people on the dangers of fentanyl and the life-saving effects of Naloxone, a medicine that reverses opioid-related overdoses. A historically underserved population, this webinar explored the ways in which collegiate recovery programs meet the needs of students and how they can play a role in achieving core recovery outcomes in your community.

Data supporting the positive outcomes associated with peer support integration throughout the substance use disorder continuum of intervention and care has led nationally to systems integrating members of this relatively new workforce into their teams. Among most peer certifying authorities, sustained recovery from substance use disorder is one of the requirements to become a peer. Although substance use recurrence or “relapse” is not common among those in sustained recovery, it does happen. This webinar will introduce suggested considerations when attempting to draft model recurrence policy for peer support employers.

In this context, the overarching aim of this document is to inform and encourage governments, policy–makers, and other partners to take the necessary actions to implement evidence-based prevention strategies and treatment services for substance use disorders in order to provide everybody, girls as well as boys, and women as well as men, with the skills and opportunities to prevent the initiation of unhealthy behaviours and, in case of individuals who use drugs and suffer from drug use disorders, with the optimal support for improving their life circumstances.

Background: Racial/ethnic disparities in the use of opioids to treat pain disorders have been previously reported in the emergency department (ED). Further research is needed to better evaluate the impact race/ethnicity may have on the use of opioids in adolescents for the management of pain disorders in the ED.
