64,000 people died from an overdose in the U.S. in 2016. Fentanyl-related deaths are up 540% in the last 3 years. In 2016 72% of the 1,374 fatal overdoses in NYC involved heroin and/or fentanyl

The National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare (NCSACW), a program of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF), prepared this document to support policy makers, administrators, and service providers.
