Recovery Housing, Medications for OUD (MOUD), and Emerging Issues
Presenters will explain recovery housing and MOUD in the context of issues emerging in rural America resulting from the pandemic and its impact on the rates of substance use disorder (SUD) and drug overdose. They will discuss the impact of the pandemic on the correctional system and state actions in response to COVID-19 as it affects those with SUD. They will also give an overview of how recovery housing can be developed, especially in rural areas.

Presenters gave an overview of how recovery housing in this context can be developed especially in rural areas.

The course titled, Plans of Safe Care for Infants Exposed to Opioids, educates pediatricians about best practices in caring for, and supporting families affected by prenatal opioid exposure. Advancing the care coordination and patient- and family-centered pediatric medical home framework, the course supports pediatricians in implementing key recommendations outlined in the newly released clinical report, Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome. The topics include, (1) trends and impact of opioid use disorder (OUD) during pregnancy; (2) practical approaches for addressing social attitudes towards pregnant and parenting women with OUD; and (3) discharge planning to support long-term treatment and recovery for the mother-infant dyad during the transition to community care.

With the support of the Delta Regional Authority and the Health Resources Services Administration’s Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, the National Rural Health Resource Center provides selected rural Delta hospitals, clinics and their communities with technical assistance through the Delta Region Community Health Systems Development Program. The purpose of the DRCHSD Program is to assist leaders and providers in identifying and addressing health care needs while strengthening the local health care system.
