Tribal communities throughout the United States are often acknowledged as having higher rates of negative health outcomes, including higher rates of overdose and substance use, with little context given to the contributing historical and contemporary factors. This webinar will explore the roots of historical trauma among Tribal communities in the US and the relation to current-state issues, and offers shared understanding and strengths-based perspectives as means to move forward.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand what historical trauma is and how the impacts of trauma continue to affect Tribal communities in present-day
  • Apply an understanding of historical impacts of trauma to contextualize increased overdose and substance use among Indigenous people the US
  • Discuss the importance of strength-based perspectives in supporting positive change
