Syringe Services Programs (SSPs) and community-based harm reduction programs are a proven, cost-effective HIV and viral hepatitis prevention mechanism, providing people who use drugs with sterile equipment, naloxone and overdose education, and other services to improve their quality of life. Many of these programs face limited funding and infrastructures – given the U.S. overdose rates have been on an upward climb since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The funding landscape for harm reduction programs is complex, yet they continue to remain resilient and create innovative services for people who use drugs and their communities.

Join AIDS United, in partnership with NASTAD, for a webinar series entitled “Building a Sustainable Future for Harm Reduction Funding.” This four-part webinar series will occur bi-weekly, starting Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022 from 2:00 – 3:30 PM ET, and will reoccur at that respective time. In the series, we will explore the many aspects of grant writing, funding sources, data & reporting, and the complex funding landscape for SSPs and community-based programs, with hopes to make the process easier and thoughtful. Participants will learn about how to navigate the fraught nature of funding and gain tools on how to develop a strong grant proposal for funders. Participants will also learn about creative collaborations across jurisdictions, braided funding models, and innovative ways in leveraging diverse funding streams.
